This fee will cover the cost of the contract if you cannot pay the bill. There are very few people who can actually afford to give them that money.

This fee will be held for as long as a year or even longer depending on your credit score. It is there in case the contract does not get paid but it allows you to be able to get a phone from them. Sometimes if there is any late payment, you will not get the money back. It can help you show them that you are going to pay the bill but a lot of people are not willing to do this.

By paying this, you are proving to them that you are going to get that bill paid on time every month. Sometimes after the time period that it is held, it will be applied to your account as long as there was not any payments that were late. This is nice for some people because then they do not have a bill for up to several months. Other times, the company will mail a check to you.

Sometimes a friend will let you join their contract but it will not be in your name. You will be required to pay for your phone and any charges associated with it. One of the problems with this method is that if your friend is not paying it then your service will be interrupted as well. You are also not showing any credit on your report if it is in another name.

Many of the companies that have the prepaid cell phones that you can buy in department stores and gas stations are now offering contracts when you buy their products as well. These do not include all of the fancy features that some of the bigger companies are offering. Some of these are much cheaper than paying for the bigger names anyways.

With these plans, most of them will have a limit of minutes and texts each month for each plan. Sometimes they will allow you to go over this limit but you will get charged more per minute. This is one reason to know which package is best for you as well as knowing how often your phone will be used.

Some people choose a plan with more minutes than they think they might need to make sure that they are not having any overage that they have to pay for. A lot of times the plan can be changed easily so that you are not paying more than you are using each month. Most of the phones that are distributed now have all of the features available, such as voice mail, caller id and text messaging.
