The Polaroid takes a much better photo even though it may be the cheapest camera on the market. Do yourself a favor and buy another product. The first was a 7mp that unfortunately went missing. I purchased these cameras to carry with me pretty much full time when I’m out and about so I’ll not miss a “photo of opportunity.” One tech person told me the problem was my iPhoto software and I should contact Apple (I thanked him, and called back to get a more knowledgeable person). After 4 calls and 2 emails to tech support, I still do not know if I need to initialize the camera or not. Ok, I thought I did a lot of research here, looking at quality of image and quietness of the video zoom, etc. I saw this on some of the best online camera review sites, and of course, the waterproofing and durability.

So all in all, I can’t say that this camera was awful because it did have some pros that I think were beneficial to me and could be to other people. I bought this camera as a replacement for a compact point and shoot cannon.

Panorama was difficult to make work right. It is only a mediocre camera. Changing between the different modes on the camera is fast and easy, and all the settings for that mode are right on the same screen, so it’s so easy to quickly adjust a setting if you needed to. It’s a great little camera to have!

An as yet unfounded fear is that buttons and seals do not look particularly waterproof. I have not taken it underwater though, and I have no plans to. Mine got water damage within the first week from being used in a pool, 5ft deep at the deepest point. My girlfriend’s camera received water damage within two weeks from being splashed in the surf.

The picture quality is terrible. I spent days trying all possible combinations of quality/speed/lighting settings, but the colors always come out unforgivably washed.

Also, the pictures are great quality and crisp. I use it a lot on cars, and the detail is great.

Right off the bat, the front fascia (blue in my case) was easily dented by the charging cord bumping against it (which later cost me a restocking fee when I returned it because it was “damaged”). I thought it was supposed to be tough! This model has a couple of serious problems that irritates us. First, when we push on button, the lens door open immediately but the camera is not available to take. When I saw this camera in the store, I was very impressed. The salesman took the camera and banged it against a metal post, showing that it would not dent or scratch, or even better, break. It cost more to fix these cameras than to buy a new one. So far our Tough cameras keep working even after rough use.

I am not going to be going on an amazing vacation and need amazing, stellar pictures that sell them self. Come to find out, I am pleased. So, take your habits with normal photography and double them if you plan on taking this camera below the surface: stay still, don’t zoom in low light, and use the flash sparingly, especially in coastal/cloudy water. Learned as we went and read the directions. The memory is the wrong memory. It is the memory for the older model.

Phone is now dead as disco and the return labels have already been printed. That’s too bad too, because I was very happy with the quality of the pictures and really liked the thought of shooting pictures under water. So, save your money and either buy another brand or just rent an underwater camera at one of the drive shops. When I got the camera in the mail I took it with me on a fishing trip.

My husband hands it to me and it is extremely warm. I try to shut it off and it won’t shut off. It has been about 3 months and now the camera won’t even turn on. I’m sending it back to Olympus, we will see, I researched “Tough” Cameras for a few months before I made my purchase.

I also really like the rechargeable battery; just like my cell phone it charges as I have it plugged in to the USB port. I think it will pay for itself just in the battery savings alone. I used my friends Olympus Stylus Tough 8000 last year on a snorkeling trip in the Dominican Republic. I completely submerged the camera for hours and it worked great. The memory card that was supposed to fit in the camera didn’t slide down all the way. In all, I would not suggest this camera to anyone who enjoys sending in their camera often, and enjoys not knowing which setting to use.

Luckily I purchased black tie protection on it from Best Buy so I don’t anticipate any problems with repair or return. But now I am stuck on vacation without an underwater camera.

It takes nice pictures and I don’t worry about her getting her hands on it. So far so good, I have had this for a month and takes great pictures and the water/underwater pictures are great.

It took the company about 1 month to send me a charger and that isn’t it so now I have to send it in and that sucks. There were some very specific things that I was looking for in a new camera. I do have a couple of complain about this camera thus far. One, I took it to the pool and the beach already, I notice that each time, there is a little bit of water after I get home and try to load the pictures. I definitely, have no confidence in putting this camera in the water ever again. I had purchased this camera a couple of years ago and was very happy with the quality.

My rating does not reflect the camera itself, just the fact that Olympus apparently decided to ignore a significant and growing percentage of their market, Mac users. I expect more from Olympus.

I also saw the same issue with poor focusing on anyone/anything moving. Rugged Design and feel Cons: Needing to hook up to a PC to “initialize” the camera I just bought this camera at best buy in Miami on vacation. The third setting is holding the button down and it will continuous shoot photos. The zoom really impressed me too, especially underwater (just make sure you set it to the underwater option- I found that makes a big difference). I also love how easy this camera is to use- my dad bought the new Canon underwater camera for our California trip, and he spent the better portion of every killer moment trying to adjust his settings or figure out which button to push.

The menu options are very easy. It is very easy to switch the flash on and off, which the option I toggle back and forth the most.

Olympus has said that the warranty will cover it but I made the mistake to not save all the paperwork. However I am still considering buying a new Olympus because I really like the thought of a water proof camera and the picture quality was good. Highly recommended! It’s a good camera and probably would give 4 stars if it wasn’t for the freezing problem.

I snorkeled several times for the whole week and it did not fail. So I opted to buy my own Olympus to use on my next trip to Mexico. It does not seem to judge light conditions very well, often telling me that the camera was shaking in daylight conditions. I also found it cumbersome to sift through the “scene” features on this camera. The Polaroid takes a much better photo even though it may be the cheapest camera on the market. Do yourself a favor and buy another product.

There are a few low profile buttons on the back that are easy to switch settings with using the LCD, no knobs to turn. It is by far the most durable camera that I have had, and waterproof is a nice change.

While I haven’t exposed it deliberately to any of these yet…I’ll update once it’s been initiated. I bought this camera for my daughter to take on her vacation. I have owned several versions of them. It does have a slow return so I need to find that option of turning off the preview to make the return quicker. The camera is great.

I’m guessing it allows the camera to charge more quickly. So my advice is to get a small case that allows you to ALWAYS have that cable with you. I was super excited to get this camera because I had done so much research and comparison shopping beforehand…I even tried it at the local Best Buy and it seemed at the time to be a great buy, and to top it off, I saved over $100 by purchasing it on Amazon! However, I have now tested it in several situations/environments with the exception of underwater, and I’m seriously disappointed in the functionality of the camera as well as the quality of the pictures that are coming out. The video is also great, 720p image quality, and great sound too. The only con is that the panoramic mode under if used as automatic is not very good. Water got in the camera and damaged it. I would suggest buying a different brand if you want to use it for underwater pictures. The camera worked fine, but after it ran out of batteries and I charged it a few days ago, the camera stopped working. All it will do is attempt to turn on (the screen flashes “Olympus”) but then the screen goes dark and appears on, but completely black, no menu, no image, nothing.

I wanted a waterproof camera I could take while fly fishing and not worry about it getting rained on or soaked if I fell in the river. The environment this camera withstood is a testament to how good a product it is; it rained nearly every day, the temp varied each day from low 40s to mid 60s F.

I don’t know if this is an electrical, software, physical or factory defect problem, but I’ve read a few reviews of Olympus underwater and tough models having a similar problem, so I’m hoping I can at least get the camera fixed or repaired by Olympus, but nothing can replace the photos I can’t take now. These pictures, if taken under fair conditions (sufficient light, clear water), the quality is very good.

This is just something to help you out if you buy one. All of this was bought for $180.

A major reason, the major reason I bought it instead of another standard point and shoot was for the ruggedized features: shock and water proof to 16 feet. As a standard around the house camera it worked fine.
